About unanticipated event

The story begins with a running start with two young gang members from Brooklyn dashing away from the police. They run into a dark alley an encounter a mysterious gentleman from their past. How will the stranger alter their life? Listen to this audio to find out. I wrote this story during my Creative Writing class when I was supposed to be paying attention to my professor, and instead of being bored I decided to write an action story. It represents my best work as it demonstrates my creativity and a different perspective told from a guy's point of view.

Process​

First, my mentor and I made a list of the sounds that were going to be portrayed in the audio. Then I recorded myself reading the story and I got my sister to read one of the male character parts. Then we downloaded the sounds from YouTube and we converted the files to Mp3's. After, we used Audacity to insert the sounds in the appropriate places. The process initially was stressful. But once we got the hang of it, it became fun as we started to hear the story come alive with the sounds.

The time you felt the most powerful

I felt the most powerful with my mentor when she bombarded me with poetry and commentary articles about what Donald Trump's presidency will mean for minority communities. We then looked up our representatives and wrote them a letter about our concerns, our needs and what's in the best interest for the community as a whole. It inspired me to "keep it real yo" and to let my work shine by being honest with myself without worrying about what others will expect from me and my writing.
